POW WOW FOOD – APPLE - SNOW WHITE'S POISON - MY ELIXIR

If you are howling in pain
be it  a simple sprain
gout
or
just another  bout
when your painkiller doesn’t kick in
and you are ready to do some killin
chances are that something red
will stop making you feel so full of dread.
Apples, Apples, Apples so juicy and red
Will make your pain go to bed.

Okay that’s my lame attempt at poetry.

The simple truth is that red apples literally work faster than painkillers. While they are no substitute for painkillers they normally do take the edge of your pain so if for example your painkiller takes 2 hours to relive your pain an apple will in about 20 mins give you some relief till the meds kick in or if you are like me and can’t have many medications then it is simply natures painkiller.

To all fellow fans of Disney and Snow White, a red apple instantaneously brings to mind thoughts of an evil, wicked witch and images of a poisonous apple.

Followed ,of course , as we all know by True Love but for me there is now a twist in this fairy-tale, a very simple twist, one that replaces an apple as not poisonous but an elixir and True Love with as I like to now say it, True Health.

How now, you say?

Well all of you have probably heard of the old adage ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ and some of you might have even heard of the new addition to it  ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away but two apples a day can be a real tonic for the heart and circulation’.
All of the above, as the saying goes is ‘All present and correct’.

Now for some medical jargon, apples, all of them, not just the red ones, contain a soluble fibre called Pectin which helps the body to eliminate cholesterol and also protects us against environmental pollutants. They also contain malic and tartaric acid which aid in digestion and are rich in quercitin which is highly supportive of the lungs. In fact apples are known to help in so many ways, a few of which I have tried to list below.

Heavy metal removal
Lowers Cholesterol
Reduces Pain
Improves Digestion
Relieves Constipation
Reduces Diarrhoea
Calming effect on the nerves
Lowers blood pressure

Apples are also considered to be a very good addition in the diet of people suffering from arthritis, gout, rheumatism, gastroenteritis and colitis.

As I have mentioned in a previous post on inflammation, if you have a very sensitive tummy you might want to remove the peel of an apple as it will be easier to digest. As always trust your GutInstinct.

Personally, apples have helped me in so many ways,
as natural painkillers,
as toxin removal agents,
they help me breathe and make me happy as can be.
They are my one true elixir.
And the best part of all is that they are sooooo YUMMY!!!
